The laughs continue in Part II of Beth Haslams' series Fat Dogs and French Estates. This second book details the adventures of a recently retired British couple, Beth and her husband Jack, as they continue their hunt for the perfect retirement home in the south of France. It is not necessary to read the first book in the series to enjoy the second, but it does help to understand the humorous relationship between Beth and her irascible husband Jack, as well as the quirky personalities of their two dogs and their unusual real estate agent, "ItsWILL." (Plus, the first book in this series really, really funny and it is certainly worth reading the first book even after you've read this second book.) There is as much action in the second book as in the first, and there are even more unusual characters to meet when "team Great Britain" meet the French selling their country estates. Once again, I laughed aloud during every chapter. I liked the fact that this time around Jack gets to try his luck with those irksome real estate agents and (spoiler alert) Beth could to tell him "I told you so!" (But, of course, she was too kind to do so.) Also, I enjoyed the twists and turns at the end after the couple seemed to have discovered their dream property. We get to see that Jack has "the right stuff" to seal the deal, although we are kept in the dark, as Beth was, wondering exactly what he is up to until the very end of the negotiations. All-in-all, this book kept me reading avidly until the final chapter and the cliffhanger that led me directly into the third book. I highly recommend this book for an entertaining read and I'm sure I will be continuing the story with the third to find out what happens next! I love Beth and Jack's adventures in France. Book 1 saw them start their search for the perfect domaine in Southern France, and this books carries on the story. With the two fat dogs in tow, they are shown a lot of properties that don't bear any relation to Beth's demands, which causes Jack to become even more irascible - if that is possible! He's a lovable chap, but doesn't suffer fools gladly!There are some fabulous characters - some you will love, and others that leave you open mouthed.... Beth tells an amusing story. How she manages to keep her patience, and her sense of humor amazes me. French realtors don't seem to have any understanding of what she actuslly wants, which leads to some very funny situations. Will they finally find the perfect domiane, or will they meet their end pushed off a French mountainside? You need to read it to find out...
